Very Odd.

Returning for a moment to the matter of the leaked BNP membership list, one of the oddest names on the list as far as this part of the world was concerned, was that of the clinical psychologist, Dr Neil Bathurst of Exminster.

Neil Bathurst has as bizzare a political history as you are ever likely to find anywhere. In the late 1980's he was a member of the Labour party in Exeter and one of a small group who left Labour and joined The Workers Revolutionary Party. After a short spell with the WRP he left and was then associated with the rival Socialist Workers Party and had a reputation as a militant antifascist. He then dropped out of politics altogether until he resurfaced on the BNP membership list. Apparently he also has an interest in Buddism and Death Metal music.

It would seem that the good doctor is probably in need of some serious counselling himself.

I know Neil at work but didn't know about this. Wish I didn't now.

The strange and ironic thing with the BNP is the number of black and asian members the party has/had in the past couple of years! I seem to remember a fairly high profile black lady member who i think was a retired athelete.

To anon the first.

I have some contacts who knew this bloke well in the past. People who knew him previously are very shocked at all this.

Ken.

Not sure about the athlete. They had a very prominent candidate in some of the London elections named Laurence Rustam who was half turkish, Another high profile BNP member in Birmingham a few years back, Sharon Ebanks was thrown out after it emerged that she was half west indian.

The small and very extreme, British Peoples Party was led by Mark Cotterill formerly a very active member of both the NF and the BNP in Torbay is part chinese. The National Front in the 70s had a prominent member, Albert Elder, who was jewish and there is at least one jewish BNP councillor.
