And another continuing moan.

More problems with getting cash in this place. The cash machine in the SPAR seems to have been misfiring since at least last friday. I couldnt get cash out this morning and had to go into Tiverton to get it out this afternoon. Surely, if we have to fork out £1.75 to get our own money out the least we should expect is that the machine works properly.

HERE HERE ....it cheeses me off as well. my hard earned cash being frittered away on these cash point charges especially as we now have a credit crunch but still cheaper than the bus fares and all the haging about in town as you will spend money whilst your there.wonder though how many passengers pay bus fares these days as the village has quite an elderly population.

I've said before when you raised the subject last time, the ATM in Haggett's is not owned by a bank, it is owned and run by an independent company who make a living by charging for withdrawals. They are not a charity - no fee, no machine. Has it actually broken or just run out of cash, which is the usual reason why ATMs stop working? Has anyone tried contacting them to get it fixed?

The issue yesterday, as far as I was concerned was not that of the fee, annoying as it is, but the fact that paying the fee does not seem to guarantee that the machine works consistantly. This situation had been going on for days. The machine continually running very slow and declining either to show balances or make payments.

The last time I raised this issue in the shop I was told that you could get cashback. Not helpful if you dont want to purchase anything or, be restricted to the limited amount of cash you can obtain through this method.

And I repeat the question I raised in reply to an earlier post on this matter. What is the population you need before a proper link machine is feasible ?. Given that the population of Silverton is now 2, 000+ and that Bradninch and Thorverton with populations of between 1, 100 and 2,000 are also without cash machines and many people from those villages shop in Silverton, how much more of a population base do you need ?.

It's not the population of the village but the turnover through the machine which would determine it. I should guess that each of the ATM's in Tiverton, for example, is doing about £100k per week, those in Exeter, say, £300k+ per week. We'd be lucky if a machine in Silverton did £10k per week, and I'm guessing that would be nowhere near enough to justify a machine. If any of the banks decided to install another machine in the Exeter area I doubt whether Silverton would be high on their list. It's simply a case of getting best use from the asset.
