Quality Status ?.

I see from the Parish Newsletter section on the parish Council that The Parish Council is committed to obtaining Quality Status. Perhaps someone from the PC could tell us what Quality Status, in terms of a Parish Council means and who you obtain it from ?.

You will probably get “Quality Status” certification from the Quality Status Agency (yet another non-elected government quango). Don’t worry if it hasn’t been set up yet, it will be by the and of the week, along with another dozen or so “agencies”.

Thanks Babyblox. I’ve had a look, and I found it most interesting.

However, it does seem that NALC is a quango itself, and, (judging by the way the South-West has been configured) is part of New Labour’s Regional Government strategy.

I hate the idea of Regional Government. Let’s have a proper English Parliament/Assembly like other parts of the UK enjoy.

It is the National Association of Local Councils - national not regional - and not a quango. They are a body which represents the interests of local councils, such as Silverton PC, and have nothing to do with the government. A council achieving quality status is no different from the ISO9000 quality charter which every good business will have. NALC set a series of benchmarks which councils seek to achieve as evidence that they are providing the best possible service to their constituents.
