I was talking to one of our younger readers earlier today who is just back from Glastonbury. Whilst she was impressed with some of the more recent acts such as Blur and Kasabian she admitted that her favourite performance was by Tom Jones, who must have been performing nearly twenty years before she was born. Another outstanding act, she reported was Neil Young who's musical longevity falls not far short of the Jones boyo. Its remarkable that some of these sixties veterans seem to be able to retain a sizable fan base of all ages when the players themselves are well into the bus pass years.
The person I was speaking to said that she refrained from throwing her panties at Tom Jones but saw others doing so. One wonders if he prefers being hit by the products of Next or M&S.

At least BBC managed to cover some of Neil Young's set at Glasto. Two weeks earlier ITV2 managed to miss him entirely despite heavilly advertising that he was the headline act in their coverage of the IoW Festival, and promising all evening that he was soon to appear. They then showed an hour of inane interviews and pre-recorded purile trash while one of the greatest rock artists ever was performing live in the background. One of the most pathetic pieces of TV of all time. Right up there with ITV's other classic this year when they cut to a commercial break two minutes from the end of extra time in the Liverpool v Everton FA Cup game and managed to miss the only goal of the match. And they wonder why ITV is fast disappearing down the tubes!
Quite so. And people who go along with the constant knocking of the BBC carried on by sections of the press might well take time to reflect on the excellent service we do generally recieve from the Beeb.
