Telephone Box.

Does anyone still use the telephone box in the Square ?. It is becoming an eyesore with its broken glass panel at the front, peeling paint and a seemingly inexaustable supply of litter that seems to accumulate inside. If it still provides a useful serevice to the village surely its time that BT cleaned it up and repaired it. At the moment all it seems to be used for is a vantage point from the top of which some of the youth of the village can survey the surrounding area. Perhaps if it is no longer useful as a Telephone box we could pursuade Damien Hirst to stick a pickled shark in it, flog it off to a collector of modern art for several millions and use the money to build a concert arena on the hall site.

IKEA could have the community hall.

I regularly see lots of people using the phone box in the square. Not everyone has a mobile phone, though it often seems like it if you travel by train these days. I for one would be very sorry to see it go although I agree it is sorely in need of refurbishment. I see that BT are now inviting communities to 'adopt' , ie pay for, their local phone box, either with or without the phone equipment. Perhaps giving it a coat of paint should be a condition of adopting it.

It certainly needs a coat of paint, thats for sure. Both externally and internally. and a regular cleanup. I cant say that I am too chuffed about this 'adoption' business though. It just seems another way to get people to pay for a once public service.

It seems like you may have got your way over the phone box afterall. One of the village pond life has decided to vandalise the telephone in the Square, which may give BT the excuse to remove it rather than spend money repairing it. Sad day if they do.
